Six injured in Koodankulam nuke plant after water spilled from a valve



Chennai:
Six persons were injured in Koodankulam Nuclear Plant after hot water spilled from a valve, according to KKNP site director R S Sundar.

Sundar said the incident happened when the departmental personnel along with contract workers were carrying out maintenance work on a valve in Turbine Building of
Unit-1, at 1210 hours.

He said the three departmental personnel and three contractor personnel who sustained injuries were immediately given necessary first aid at KKNPP site like cold water bath.

They were shifted to Anuvijay Township Hospital and subsequently to a speciality hospital at Nagercoil for further treatment.

He also rejected reports of steam pipe break or blast at
KKNPP. “Koodankulam nuclear plant reactor is safe and
continues to operates safely. Public need not to have any fear about the safety of the reactor,” he said in a release.
