Chennai:
Andhra Pradesh opened the gates of Kandaleru Reservoir on Friday as
500 cusecs of Krishna water was let out to quench the thirst of
Chennaites.
A senior PWD official told Express that Andhra officials would release
initially 500 cusecs of water which would be increased substantially.
This comes in the wake of city going without Krishna Water for more
than a month.
A PWD official said that it would nearly take six days for the Krishna
water to reach Chennai.
The release of Krishna water comes at a time when city’s reservoir
levels are dropping.
The release of Krishna water from Andhra Pradesh also comes after the
state government has written letters requesting release of water to
rejuvenate the depleting reservoirs.
As per the agreement with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu has to get 8 tmc
feet of water from this July to August, the PWD official said.
