CBI unearths recruitment scam in Indian Overseas Bank

Chennai:

CBI has unearthed a recruitment scam in Indian Overseas Bank and has
arrested eight people in this regard, according to CBI anti-corruption
bureau sources.

Sources told Express that following complaints in Tamil Nadu over
irregularities in the recruitment for 950 posts of messengers and
temporary sweepers nationwide, CBI launched investigations across the
state and arrested eight union leaders of Indian Overseas Bank.

Sources said that it is too early to say how many people from Tamil
Nadu were recruited to the posts.

“Each region had one such case. Investigations are still going on,”
the source said.

She said the allegations were that ineligible candidates were selected
to the post. “Most of them never possessed the qualification sought
for the job,” the source said.

She said the accused collected money from the ineligible candidates
besides arranged fake educational certificates.

To a query whether investigations would be launched nationwide, the
source said that right now they got complaints only from the state as
such their investigation is limited to Tamil Nadu. Further
investigations are on.
