Chennai:
Krishna water reached Poondi reservoir on Wednesday boosting
the city’s water storage levels.
Metro Water sources told Express that Krishna water reached Zero Point
on Tuesday morning.
“Initially, we received 41 cusecs of water which later increased to
151 cusecs. The water is expected to reach Poondi by 6am,” the metro
Water spokesman said.
Andhra Pradesh opened the gates of Kandaleru Reservoir on Friday as
500 cusecs of Krishna water was let out to quench the thirst of
Chennaites.
This comes in the wake of city going without Krishna Water for more
than a month.
The release of Krishna water comes at a time when city’s reservoir
levels are dropping. Sources said that water was released after the
state government has written letters requesting release of water to
rejuvenate the depleting reservoirs.
As per the agreement with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu has to get 8 tmc
feet of water from this July to August, the PWD official said.
