Chennai:
Your air baggage is overweight and you don’t have a mechanism to check its weight and now are being forced by the airlines at the last minute to cough up the additional amount!
All you have to do is either pay the money or just cancel your itinerary. Now help is on way in the form of trolleys for passengers in Chennai airport.
“You will soon have the mechanism in trolleys which will highlight the amount of weight the trolley is handling. This will help the passengers to either remove the additional luggage so that he can check-in peacefully,” says chairman of Ad Bureau Adverstising Private Limited Abirchand Nahar has signed a contract with Airport Authority Lmited.
Initially, we will be rolling out 4,000 trolleys in phases. These will replace the old trolleys, says Nahar.
Interestingly, with the value addition to the trolleys, Chennaites will now have to pay for these trolleys.
“We plan to generate a revenue model through the use of trolleys like what is happening in US and Europe. We will also be introducing an app for Chennai airport trolleys, says Nahar, who also plans to replicate it in other airports.
Nahar plans to make extensive use of technologies such as IPS (inland positioning systems),radio frequency identification, LED light modules and other mechanical and manual techniques to make the trolleys attractive to the advertisers while increasing the efficiency of operations.
Interestingly, the trolleys could be divided into different segments. “It could be a base trolley, higer-end trolley as well as top-end trolley.
Plans are also there to have features like providing flags to the trolley as well as some sort of illumination.
Nahar also plans to have English speaking trolley operators and is already having talks with Madras university in this regard to hire students. “There may be some students who wanted to earn some money while studying or those who are unemployed as they have arrears. We are planning to rope them as trolley operators,” says Nahar.
Little do people know that airport trolleys, an integral part of the air passenger experience are usually charged in western countries. Passengers have to pay about $ 5-7 for each time of usage, he says
