Met report on monsoon key to govt strategy on managing foodgrains


Chennai:
The Union government will chart out a strategy on managing the food grains after going through the report from the meteorology predictions which is expected on June 22 or June 24, according to minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas.

He was replying to a query over reports stating that the monsoon could be erratic this year.

“We are studying that. The next meteorology report is expected by June 22 or 24 and once we get it, we will sit with agriculture ministry officials and look into the predictions before deciding on how to manage the food grains,” the minister said.

On the National Food Security Bill, the minister said the government hoped to pass it in the Winter session of Parliament.
