Judge Maharajan’s contribution to Tamil literature hailed


Chennai:
Tributes were paid to former High Court judge justice S Maharajan on his birth centenary celebrations here on Saturday night.

Legal luminaries, scholars and academicians hailed Maharajan, a scholar in Tamil and English and a staunch votary of Tamil music.

During the celebrations, which was marked by traditional dance Bharatnatyam and speeches, a collection of works of justice S Maharajan ‘Inner Meaning of Human History’ was released by former chief justice of Gujarat High Court P R Gokulakrishnan.

Speaking on the occasion, Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu paid tribute to the literary works of Maharajan and said the judge introduced Shakespeare in Tamil and Kambar in English. “His legacy will continue as long as the works of Shakespeare and Kambar last,” the Tamil poet said.

Pa Lakshmanan, founder of Ilakiya Chinthanai hailed his integrity as well as love for art. Her termed him not only a Tamil intellect but a man who has his heart in Tamil.

Former attorney general K Parasaram and former Supreme Court judge S Natrajan recalled their associations with Maharajan and termed him ‘King among Men.’

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president and MP B S Gnandesikan recalled his association with Maharajan and said how he had brought positive changes in his life.
