Chennai-Bangalore Expressway open for tenders

Chennai: The Detailed Project Report for the six-lane Chennai-Bangalore Expressway is ready to be finalized and tenders will be called soon, according to I G Reddy, Chief General Manager (Technical), Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Reddy told Express on Thursday that the Expressway, which will cut down travel time and fuel consumption, would have 12 junctions and grade separators.

“The Rs 5,000 crore project covers a stretch of 260 km and would take the Kolar-Chittoor route with 12 major intersections where traffic would evolve and exit,” Reddy said.

He also said National Highways Authority is trying to break the deadlock over Chennai Port – Maduravoyal elevated link road project by conducting a technical study and submitting it to state government.

He said the water resources department objected over the project alignment saying it was on the river bed and not on the banks.

“Wilbur Smith is conducting the study and it will be submitted to the state government,” he said, adding that delays will result in increase in cost of the project. However, he refused to give further details when questioned on how loss the NHAI has occurred after the project was put on hold from April this year.
