Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Information Commission has directed the Chennai
Corporation to provide information on why a 25-year-old bus stand in Chamiers
Road was shifted by bus route roadways.
The
direction from TNIC came following a petition by R Natrajan, a research scholar
and a Right to Information activist, alleging irregularity in bus stop sign
erection and shifting of the bus shelter.
The
state information commission directed the public information officer of Bus
Route Roadways, Chennai Corporation supply the information to the petitioner
and report to the commission by June 20.
Natrajan
alleged that the bus stand was shifted closer to Adyar Gate traffic signal
after a new commercial building was constructed. “Shifting the bus stand closer
to signal creates traffic hazard and people are finding it difficult to take a
left turn from the Adyar Club Gate road towards Nandanam,” he told Express.
“There
is no logic in shifting the bus stand which was in existence for the last 25
years. There was also a written complaint lodged by a vigilance officer on
March 9, 2012 to shift it back to the original place. Interestingly, no action
has been taken in this regard,” Natrajan said.
“I also had written several letters to the
corporation commissioner and once I did get a reply which was ambiguous so I
have moved the state information commission again,” said Natrajan.
