CMDA seals buildings for flouting norms

In a bid to check unauthorized construction in Chennai Metropolitan Area, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) on Wednesday locked and sealed two buildings at Neelankarai and Perungudi respectively for violating section 56 and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.

CMDA member secretary R Venkatesan said the building in 3rd cross street located at the junction of Singaravelan Salai was sealed as the stilt floor (partially built), ground floor (partially built) plus three floors were unauthorized construction. e said a stop work notice was issued by CMDA on December 17.
“Despite the notice, the building work was proceeding. Hence a locking and sealing notice was issued on February 5. As the owner did not comply with the notice and continued with further construction work, the premises is locked and sealed,” he added.
Similarly, another building in Seevaram village in perungudi industrial estate on Rajiv Gandhi Salai for violating the plan. The owner has obtained planning permission from executive officer, Perungudi Town Panchayat for the construction of stilt floor plus two floors automobile electronic components manufacturing unit but constructed a commercial commercial building with stilt plus two floors and third floor partially constructed.
A stop work notice was issued on January 3, 2013. despite the notice, the building work was going on as such the the unauthorized third floor of the building was sealed, he said in a release.
