TN educational and charitable trust under CBI scanner


Chennai:

Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against then
additional secretary Medical council of India Dr Pukhraj Prasannaraj
and five others, including chairman of an educational and charitable
trust in Tamil Nadu, for alleged irregularities for admission into
first year MBBS Course of Sardar Rajas Medical college and Hospital in
Odisha.

A CBI spokesperson said that it is alleged that the then additional
secretary of Medical council of India entered into a criminal
conspiracy with the accused and some unknown persons in 2013 by
flouting the norms of Medical Council of India and granted permission
to the medical college for admission into first year MBBS courses for
the academic year 2013-14.

Besides Prasannaraj, cases have been registered against Johnsel Raja,
chairman of Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust, Tamil Nadu, which
set up the college at Jaring in Kalahandi district of Odisha, Ashok
kumar, assistant, Medical Council of India, a private person whom CBI
has not identified, Dr Janet Khalko, former principal of Sardar Rajas
Medical college, Hospital Jaring, Kumbharpada, Sambalpur and Anish
Gopalan, Dwarka, New Delhi and others.

It is learnt that CBI also conducted searches at three different
places in Tamil Nadu including official and residential premises of
accused in Vadadangulam and Nagercoil. Raids were also conducted at
two places in Odisha (Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur) and four places in
Delhi (Dwarka and Nazafgarh).

During the search, cash worth approximately Rs 5.5 lakh, 2 kg of
gold(approx); 25 kg silver (approx) along with documents of three
properties in the name of family and relatives of then additional
secretary were recovered.

Certain incriminating documents were also recovered. Further
investigation is continuing.
