Chennai:
Tamil Nadu has got Rs 435 crore
fund from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to
develop its infrastructure.
The Rural Infrastructure
Development Fund (RIFD) is for executing infrastructure projects in various
sectors like irrigation, flood protection, rural connectivity and
infrastructure facilities for backward classes, most backward classes and
minorities hostels, according to
Lalitha Venkatesan, chief general
manager NABARD, Chennai Regional Office.
She said an amount of Rs 63.175
crore has been sanctioned for construction of a series of groynes from Ennore
to E Kuppam in Thiruvallur district for flood protection besides linking
Parapikular Aliyar Project System to Uppar Canal in Tiruppur district to
provide irrigation for additional crop area.
On completion, these projects will
facilitate sustainable promotion of livelihood to nearly 38,000 fishermen in
Tamil Nadu and benefit an ayacut area of 2452.42 hectare area.
An amount of Rs 329.33 crore has
been sanctioned for improvement of 514 rural roads in 31 districts of Tamil
Nadu. On completion, these projects will benefit 1,803 villages comprising of
75.5 lakh rural population.
An amount of Rs. 42.509 crore has
been sanctioned for construction of 56 hostels for backward classes, most backward classes and minorities community
in 24 districts of Tamil Nadu. On completion, these projects will benefit 3,450
students from 2336 villages.
With this, the cumulative sanction
by NABARD, under RIDF-XVIII for 2012-13 is Rs 1256.43 crore, of which Rs 151.2
crore is specifically for development of storage and warehousing facility in
the State. Other infrastructure development supported during the current year
include rural bridges, school infrastructure, strengthening of ooranies, pay
and use toilets in rural and semi urban areas, fish farms and jetties for
inland and marine fisheries.
