First CMRL train ready for inspection next month



Chennai:

The first train will be rolled out for Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) officials’ inspection in Brazil by the end of next month, according to metro rail sources.

Metro Rail said that eight cars shells required for the first two trains is completed and further fitment of cables, pipes, panels and equipments are progressing well in the Alstom factory in Brazil.

Sources also said the mock-up model of the train is completed in Brazil and is expected to be shipped to Chennai by the end of this month.

The first article inspection and type test equipments of the parts of train to ensure its quality will be conducted by the officials this month, the sources added.

Meanwhile, work is also progressing at a rapid space in the elevated stretch. The track works for about 3.5 km between Vadapalani and CMBT stations have been completed.

The erection of electrical masts on elevated viaduct between Vadapalani and Koyambedu has started. So far, 46 masts have been erected at the site and further erection is going on.

Meanwhile, tunneling operations between the 939 metres stretch between Nehru Park to Chennai Egmore is in full swing and till now metro rail has tunneled 84 metres. The tunnel boring machine is getting ready for launching in Washermenpet while it is being assembled in May Day Park and Shenoy Nagar.
