Hindi helps in spreading Tamil literature

Chennai:
Many posts in Central Hindi Directorate in Chennai is lying vacant due to lack of eligible candidates and interest among the youngsters who prefer corporate job to a government job, according to deputy director Central Hindi Directorate Pradeep K Sharma.
Speaking during Hindi Poet Meet organized by Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School and South Chakra, the first and only Hindi weekly published from Chennai on Friday, Sharma said there is a need to create awareness among the youngsters on building their career by using Hindi language.
He said globally Hindi is getting recognition with some states in United States recognizing its importance following India’s rising growth, it is an irony that the language has failed to garner support in many Indian states.
Still many states in North East consider English as its official language, rued Sharma. He said there is a need to clear the common perception that English language is key to success. Hindi is equally important and plays a major role in uniting the nation.
Sharma said that awareness about Hindi language is growing in Tamil Nadu and more and more people are learning the language.
V K Agarwal, editor-in-chief of South Chakra, highlighted how his Hindi weekly tried in bridging the language divide. “I started the weekly in 1995 and have the patronage of both Hindi and Tamil readers,” said Agarwal, who migrated from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. He said the event was organsised in school to nurture the love for the national language.
Highlighting the richness of Tamil literature, he said it could be spread nationally by translating it into Hindi. More than 15 poets along with students participated in the event. Also present were Kamala Devi Agarwal, publisher of South Chakra, principal Vijaya Lakshmi and the school hindi teacher Sudha Trivedi.
