PMANE gets backing of political outfits to take Koodankulam protest to Chennai on Oct 29


Chennai:
People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) will take the Koodankulam protest to Chennai on October 29 when state assembly will convene to elect the deputy speaker.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, a group of political outfits and social organizations said they would back the protest by PMANE, which would be a peaceful one to bring to light the Koodankulam issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi MLA M H Jawaihrullah said the protest will be backed by parties like MDMK, Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam, Tamizh Val Urimai Iyakkam and Naam Thamizhar.

To a query on whether they sought permission from the government to conduct such protest, he said the peaceful protest would be conducted even without permission.

The outfits also demanded abolition of section 144 imposed in Koodankulam, immediate release of protesters and also withdrawal of cases against them besides initiating action against those involved in desecration of places of worship.

The representatives from various outfits also demanded closure of all nuclear plants and stressed the need for the state to invest in renewable energy.
