Chennai:
The
industry has welcomed the announcement by Chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the
assembly that the state government would sign memorandum of understanding worth
Rs 20,925 crore which has a potential to provide direct employment to over
36000 people and an indirect employment to more than a lakh people in the
State.

Dinesh, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council said that this announcement made
by the Chief Minister in the assembly was a landmark initiative which would
give a boost to the manufacturing sector in Tamil Nadu.
He
also urged the chief minister to consider forming a State Level Tamil Nadu
Manufacturing Competitiveness Council to provide further impetus to the
initiatives of the government in the manufacturing sector.
According
to the Vision 2023 document of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the contribution
of manufacturing sector to the State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) was 16.5 per
cent in 2010-11 and is estimated to grow at 22 per cent by 2022-23.
