CMDA seals two T Nagar buildings for flouting norms

In a bid to check unauthorized construction in Chennai Metropolitan Area, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) on Wednesday locked and sealed two different buildings at T Nagar here for violating section 56 and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.

 said the owner of the building in New Door number 43 (Old door number 18) in Mannar Street had obtained planning permission from Chennai corporation on January 24, 2011, by showing the existing building to be demolished and proposed construction of stilt plus two floors (restaurant 300 square metre with four dwelling units).

In contravention to the approved plan the owner constructed ground floor plus two floors and third floor partially and used it for lodging and commercial purpose. This involved violation in terms of building dimension, setbacks, usage violation, unauthorized ground floor and third floor part. Despite locking and sealing notice, the owner did not rectify the building as such it was sealed.

Similarly, the other building at Mannar Street in T Nagar was in contravention to the approved plan as the owner had obtained planning permission from Chennai corporation on January 27, 2011 for construction of stilt floor plus two floors (Professional office 40 square metre with four dwelling units). He built stilt plus two floors office building and partly occupied it for office purpose in first floor. The deviated building violates setbacks, use violation and FSI
