Lakshmi rules out resignation, defends Congress on bifurcation of AP

Chennai:
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Panabaaka Lakshmi on Saturday defended the Congress for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and ruled out her resignation to protest against the Cabinet’s nod to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and formation of Telangana.

“I don’t want to resign. That is their decision. I am Congress worker. I will oblige my High Command decision,” replied the minister to a query on whether she would toe the line of many of her colleagues who tendered their resignations over the issue.

The minister was in the city to roll out the sale of 5kg LPG cooking gas cylinders at petrol pumps and launching
portability of LPG connections across oil marketing companies.

The 5kg LPG cooking gas would be available at market price of Rs 504 in select petrol pumps in the country, while
existing LPG customers may opt to switch over to another
company using portability, the minister said.

Terming the indefinite fast undertaken by YSR Congress party Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as a political stunt, she said earlier he made a statement that he was for Telangana and now from Andhra Pradesh he is declaring to go on an indefinite fast, she said. She also hit out at TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu stating that he was the first to give a letter seeking Telangana.” Lakshmi told reporters.
However, she refused to divulge any details about her stance on the Telangana issue. “It is a sensitive issue. Telangana and Andhra are eyes to the Party. You have to take care of both,” she said.

She said the Congress took the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh only after TDP, YSR, BJP and Communist parties
backed it.
