Direct air link to Mozambique soon

Chennai:
India could soon have a direct air link to Mozambique with the signing of Civil Aviation Agreement soon, according to Mozambique high commissioner Jose Maria Morais.

Speaking during the India-Mozambique business delegation meeting organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday, Morais said that once the decision is taken on which city Mozambique national carrier would fly, the agreement would be inked.

“Once the deal is signed, both our national carriers will then have a air link to Maputo and Indian cities,” he said.

He also wooed auto manufacturers in the state and in the country to set up a two-wheeler manufacturing plant in the country rather than spending on exports.

Morais said that Indian businessmen, who are exporting thousands of two-wheelers and cycles to Mozambique, should now invest in Mozambique to set up a automobile manufacturing plant.

The high commissioner said that both Tamil Nadu and Mozambique have many things in common. He also expressed his keenness to take up a business delegation from Tamil Nadu to Mozambique.

He said India is providing line of credit worth $800 million to Mozambique in  infrastructure projects and is an important partner for development of the country. He said Mozabique would soon become one of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world.

He also said that Mozambique import of minerals to India is set to grow. He also highlighted that India has a sizeable share in the mineral resources of Mozambique when compared to China.
