Chennai Metro Water gets additional machineries to prepare for monsoon



Chennai:
In a bid to enhance the maintenance of sewage system during the monsoon in the city, Municipal Administration minister K P Munnusamy flagged off seven jetting cum suction machine worth Rs 2.72 crore and six jet rodding machines worth Rs 2.17 crore on Tuesday.

These machines would come handy in maintenance of the sewer systems during the monsoon in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka-Nagar, Ambattur, Anna nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam and Adyar area.

This also comes in the wake of Chief minister issuing order for purchasing 35 jet rodding machines, 50 desilting machines at a cost of rs 9.90 crore besides purchase of 20 jetting cum cuction machines, 66 desilting machinmes, 30 super sucker machines at a cost of Rs 15.20 crore.

Metro water officials said that 15 desilting machines worth 2.54 crore, 27 jet rodding machines worth rs 9.6 crore and eight jetting cum suction machine worth rs 3.02 crore have  that have been purchased recently have been put into use.
Currently, Metro water has 98 jet rodding machines, 19 jetting cum suction machines, three super sucker machines and 161 desilting machines.

Officials feel these machines would help in preparing to maintain the sewage network of the city besides ending manual scavenging.
