Ennore
Port has achieved the fastest growth rate among all major ports with a 59 per
cent increase in handling of cargo during the first half of the financial year.
This
comes at a stage when ports across the country are struggling to keep up the
momentum due to economic slowdown.
According
to Ennore Port spokesman, the port handled 12.68 million tonnes cargo during
the April-September this year as against 8 million tonnes handled last year.
Giving out the figures, he said the port handled 6.92
million tonnes of coal cargo or state electricity board from April to September
when compared to 4.13 million tonnes handled in the same period last year.
The coal cargo handled other than TNEB was 3.68, more than
one million tonnes more than it handled the same period last year (2.61 mt).
Interestingly, the cars and automobiles cargo has
increased to 1.08 million tonnes (89,579 units) when compared to 0.78 (65,244
units) million tonnes handled during the same period last year. Other cargos
