Congress Union minister slams corrupt politicians

‘God only can save the nation’ from corrupt politicians, says Textiles Minister K S Rao

Chennai:
After a series of scams have hit the UPA government, a Union minister on Saturday hit out at the corrupt politicians and said if they are hell bent on making money then ‘God only can save the nation.’

Speaking after disbursing cheques worth 3.28 crore benefiting 854 employees of Binny Mills under the Textile Workers Rehabilitation Fund Scheme (TWRFS), Union textile minister K Sambasiva Rao said that the greed of politicians to amass wealth continues even after they have tonnes of money.

“This illgotten wealth won’t come with them after their death. Neither would their sons and daughters be grateful to such person. If a father divides his wealth among two sons, each would think the father is favouring one son but when you give it to poor people they would be grateful to you throughout their life,” the minister said at a function which was attended by DMK MP T K S Elangovan and Rajya Sabha MP T K Rengarajan.

He urged the people’s representatives to make use of the money, which is allotted by the Centre and state without any misappropriation.

“If you want to make money, do business or steal or become a rowdy but don’t become a politician,” he said.
The minister also stressed the need for a universal health insurance scheme for the poor in the country and said they should also get access to the corporate hospitals.

He also said that the government has allocated Rs 1,900 crore for skill development in Textiles Ministry and urged the workers to make use of them.

He said that the 260 workers who did not get their dues under the scheme would get it within one month. “A total of Rs 1.30 crore would be disbursed to remaining 260 workers by next month,” he said.

Till now a total of 1.15 lakh workers of 91 closed textile mills in India have benefited under the TWRFS scheme. In Tamil Nadu, a total of 4,761 workers of six closed textile mills have been benefited. A total of Rs 7.44 crore have been disbursed.
