Metro Water reaches an agreement with tanker owners



Chennai:
Water supply in the city will continue uninterrupted after Chennai Metro Water and Metro Water Contract Lorry Owners Association reached an agreement over the new rates of contract on Thursday night.
This comes in the wake of 450 water tankers that make 3,000 trips a day to supply water to nook and corner of the city threatened to go off the road on Friday seeking new contract with a substantial rise in the rates for tankers carrying 9,000 litres of water.
A senior metro water official said an agreement was reached late on Thursday night where in Metro Water agreed for Rs 420 for a tanker carrying 9,000 litres water.
Earlier, Metro Water was paying less than Rs 400 for a tanker supplying 9,000 litres of water.
