HC dismisses Traffic Ramaswamy’s plea on abolition of permanent symbols


Chennai:
Madras High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Traffic Ramaswamy seeking abolition of permanent symbols of recognized state and political parties.
The First Bench comprising of acting chief justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundaresh said the petition is dismissed with cost quantifying a sum of Rs 5,000. The cost was later on cancelled on the request of the petitioner.
The judges said that in case of statutory representation or appeal, the minimum period is three to six months. “Even if the period is not prescribed, these authorities should be given breathing time, that is reasonable time to consider and pass orders on the representation which is going to have far reaching effect on the election system,” the judges observed.

Meanwhile, the court also disposed of a petition filed by Traffic Ramaswamy over unauthorized erection of statues in Chennai district.
The petition was disposed after M S Ramesh, additional government pleader sought time and said the representation is pending consideration. The same will be considered in accordance with law and on its own merits.
First bench comprising of acting chief justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundaresh stated that in view of the arguments put forth by the government pleader, nothing survives for adjudication. The petition stands disposed.
