Chennai:
Election Commission told the High Court that it will take a decision on symbols on the buses within the next two days.
G Rajagopal, standing counsel for Election commission told the court that AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's photos and the party's look alike symbol of Two Leaves on public places and mineral water bottles have been concealed.
He also submitted that whether the symbol on the small buses is of two leaves or not is under the consideration of the Election Commission and sought time for two days.
Justice T Raja accepted his submission and adjourned the hearing to Thursday.
Earlier, DMK treasurer MK Stalin has moved the Madras High Court with a miscellaneus petition for a direction to the Election Commission of India to cover/screen AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's photos and the party's look alike symbol of Two Leaves on government properties such as small buses and mineral water bottles and premises, in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Petitioner contended that the prominent display of Jayalalithaa and the AIADMK's look alike symbol of Two Leaves in plastic water bottles, small buses and in all government properties including government owned companies at the cost of the exchequer would gain valuable and pecuniary advantage over other parties, as there is no level playing field and would inspire and influence the mind of the voters and would impair the election prospects and winning chances of petitioner's party candidates in the ensuing election to the Lok Sabha.
