Lack of inner party democracy, seniors discourage youngsters to join politics

Politicians cutting across party lines stressed the need for younger generation to enter politics while highlighting lack of inner party democracy and encouragement from older generation posing a hurdle to nurture youngsters in politics.
Sansad Ratna awardees -- Congress MP S S Ramasubbu and BJP MP Arjun Ram Meghwal said here on Saturday that senior politicians should not discourage youngsters from entering politics and many parties, including BJP, Congress, Communist as well as regional parties are not grooming youngsters.
They also said that younger generation should change their attitude on joining politics. Ramasubbu said youngsters hesitate to join politics because media is showing the political system in a negative light. “Political system is corrupt but not all politicians are corrupt,” he said. Meghwal blamed lack of internal democratic system being a hurdle in youngsters joining politics.
The two MPs were honoured with Sansad Ratna award. BJP MP Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, who was selected for the award, was not present during the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, former governor of West Bengal Gopalkrishna Gandhi urged the parliament to provide solutions to three important problems that beset the nation. “These include solution to ogre of black money, solution to the related demon of corrupt practices, including the use of intimidation in elections besides a solution to widespread inefficiency and gross mismanagement of resources,” he added.
Veteran parliamentarian Era Sezhiyan highlighted how MPs are ignoring the Question hour in the parliament. On a day when there are 20 questions to be asked during the session, MPs pose two to three questions. Interestingly, Britain which is mother of parliament, the MPs there are 19 questions a day besides discuss another eight topical questions.
