Micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) are hit hard by
the power crisis in the state and an estimated 10 to 20 per cent of them have closed
down, according to S Sivagnanam, director of MSME Development Institute.
Speaking to Express on the sidelines of the All India
Management Association Third National MSME Convention here on Saturday, he
warned that if the power crisis in the state continues for more than a year
than a majority of small and micro industries will perish.
He said although the government has taken proactive steps
but the need of the hour is public private partnership venture to make the
state power surplus and boost the industrial promotion.
Sivagnanam said the worst to be hit by the power crisis
are power intensive industries and the loss is worth thousands of crores.
He said the micro industries can’t rely on alternate
source as they are too costly resulting in the industries failing to meet the
deadline of clients.
Earlier, speaking during the inaugural session, H P
Kumar, chairman and managing director of National Small Industries Corporation stressed
on the need for creating demand for manpower and nurturing the youngsters to go
in for startups. “The need is not to have million of trained workforce but also
to have startups so that the trained work force could be accommodated,” said
Kumar. He also higlighted that there are 26 million small and micro enterprises
but only 1.5 million are registered and added efforts are on to have these enterprises
registered.
