Chennai:
Tamil Nadu is expected to produce
4,200 megawatt of power by the end of this financial year from projects where
BHEL is a stakeholder, according to chief executive officer of Bharat Heavy
Electricals Limited power sector southern region Anil Kumar Ghosh.
Addressing a press conference here
on Saturday night, he said the state will be producing 2,350 MW of power within
six months of this financial year.
“These include 500 MW from Valur Unit,
600 MW from North Chennai, 1,000 MW from Koodankulam and 250 MW from Neyveli
Lignite Corporation,” he said.
He another 500 MW from Valur, 600 MW
from North Chennai, 250 MW from Neyveli and 500 MW from Thoothkudi is expected
by the end of the financial year.
He also said that Udangudi power
project, which was a joint venture between Bharat Heavy Electricals limited and
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, is expected to take off soon. The project was
halted abruptly over the funding issues. “We have now written a letter to the
state government expressing our interest in the project besides stating that
the project will meet the earlier deadline of December 2015,” a BHEL source
said.
Interestingly, the state won’t be
getting the total share of power from Koodankulam and Neyveli Lignite
Corporation projects as both are Central government projects. Meanwhile, it is
also learnt that most projects across the nation are held up due to coal
linkages. However, projects in Tamil Nadu won’t be hit, sources added.
