Daimler to shift truck manufacturing from Pune to Chennai


Chennai:
Daimler will shift its truck manufacturing operations from Pune to its Oragadam plant in Chennai, according to chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Dieter Zetsche.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said Daimler will shifting the manufacturing of Actros range of trucks from Pune to the Orgadam plant in Chennai. “We will be inaugurating it in the month of August,” said Marc Llistosella.
He also said the company will be exporting trucks from the plant to African market, Middle East and Far East.
The company will be initially manufacturing the Bharat Benz trucks in the range of 17 tonnes and 25 tonnes and later follow it up to 31 tonnes, Llistosella said.
Zetsche said India will also figure in Daimler’s euro 10.9 billion global research and development budget.
“Our team already has 1,000 research and development experts – 200 of them in Chennai. We will increase the number significantly in the next few years,” he added
