Chennai:

Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Aavin) will
be generating 38 lakh litres of milk per day by the end of the
financial year.

Aavin Managing director Sunil Paliwal told Express on Wednesday that
the milk production has gone up by 7 lakh litres a day in the last
four years due to huge investment by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s
government. Currently, Aavin is producing around 30 lakh litres milk
per day.

“It would increase by another eight lakh litres by the end of this
financial year as Aavin is working on expansion plans,” he said.

“We will be setting up a new plant in Perambalur and work has started
in this regard. This would be costing Rs 36.28 crore and the plant
would be generating Rs one lakh litre of milk,” he said.

Interestingly, Aavin is also planning to expand its plants in
Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai.

“In Coimbatore, we are planning to increase the capacity from 2 lakh
litres per day to 5 lakh litres per day at a cost of Rs 46 crore.
Similarly, in Madurai, we plan to increase the capacity from 3 lakh
litres per day to five lakh litres per day at a cost rs 9 crore,” said
Paliwal.

He also said Aavin is planning to increase the capacity in three
Chennai dairy plants by another 2 lakh litres of milk. Currently, the
three dairy plants in Chennai -- Ambattur, Sholinganallur and
Madhavaram-- are producing 11.5 lakh litres of milk and the capacity
will be extended to 13.5 lakh litres of milk.

Interestingly, Aavin is also planning to procure 68,000 litres of milk
per day for manufacturing its milk products. Earlier, only 7,500
litres of milk per day were procured for making its milk products.
