Family of Co-Pilot Subash prays for safe return of co-pilot

By Martin Louis

Chennai:

As Coast Guard is scouring for the missing Dornier and the three crew
members for the third day, the family of co-pilot deputy commandant
Subash Suresh are praying for the safe return off all three missing
crew members.

“He told me while on his way for the surveillance operation that he
will be back by 10.30pm. We hope he is safe and sound along with other
crew members and will return soon,” said Subash’s 50-year-old mother
Padma from his home in Nanganallur.

Padma said she was waiting for her son’s arrival from 10.30 pm on
Monday and at 2.30am on early Tuesday, she tried reaching Subash. “His
phone was switched off. It was around 2.45am, officials from
Coastguard conveyed the news that the aircraft went missing along with
the crew,” she said.

Although her voice quivers and her eyes moisten but the hope hasn’t
faded. “I am sure he will be back. His brain works like a computer. He
will also bring back his other colleagues. We will call you for the
photo-shoot then,” said his mother.

“Coastguard is doing their best but if they track the missing crew
soon, it would be better,” she says.

Padma is also angry with reports stating her son is a navigator. “He
is not a navigator. He is a co-pilot,” she says while trying to
substantiate her claim by showing his shield. Interestingly, the
Coastguard also issued a release only on Thursday by mentioning the
rank and details of the crew. The missing crew also include pilot
deputy commandant D S Vidyasagar and observer deputy commandant M K
Soni.

Subash underwent his pilot training in PanAm International Flight
Academy in the United states in 2008 and later joined Coastguard.

The family has been praying for his safety. When the photographer
visited the house, Subash’s wife Deepalakshmi, a private airways
employee, has gone to the temple. Subash is blessed with one-year-old
son Ishant.

His sister Surabhi, who is also awaiting her brother’s return, is
positive on his safe return. The house is also crowded with friends
and well-wishers. His friend urged a news person to share any details
they receive about the search operation.

His mother recollected how Subash was part of a Coastguard operation
to track the pirate ship in Kochi in January 2011.
