Environment atlas key to identify land suitable for industries


Chennai:
Industry has sought creation of Tamil Nadu Environment Restoration Fund and inclusion of Sate Environment Atlas in the state environment policy.

Submitting the recommendations of Industry department during the workshop on formulation of Tamil Nadu Environmental Policy, Industry secretary Dr N Sundaradevan highlighted the need for Environment atlas of the state which will help in identifying land for the industries.

He also highlighted the need to bring in dis-incentivise mechanism to make the polluters pay.

Earlier, executive vice chairman of Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau Velmurugan stressed the need for creation of Tamil Nadu Environment Restoration Fund with the help of corporates to restore environment resources including cleaning-up of toxic and hazardous waste.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations(FIEO) president and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) chairman of Tamil Nadu state council Rafique Ahamed said there is a need to create a pipeline linking the leather clusters and discharge the treated saline water into the coast so that ground water is not polluted. “The pipeline should link Vaniyambadi, Cheyyar and Sipcot, he added.

Principal counselor of Confederation of Indian industry K S Venkatagiri highlighted the need to promote green entreprenuership in the state.
