Chennai:
Leader of Opposition Vijayakanth would have relished the
title of being called ‘Captain’ by his fans but the actor turned politician
never knew the title could land him in trouble.
In what could be a blow to the actor, Madras High Court
has given green light to the police to proceed against Vijayakanth if a prima
facie case is made out on misusing the title ‘Captain’, which an ex-serviceman
says is a rank in the Indian army.
Justice C T Selvam after hearing a petition by one K
Thandabani, an ex-service man who alleged that the post of Captain is misused
and is an insult to the honour and respect of Indian army, passed the order
that if a prima facie case is made out, police can file a First Information
Report.
Thandabani, who
worked as sanitary inspector in Army Medical Wing for more than 22 years, said
Vijaykanth is just an actor and not a army officer.
“He is not entitled to use the army post of Captain. This
act of Vijayakanth tantamount to treason,” Thandabani alleged in his petition.
Interestingly, Thandabani has lodged a complaint on February
14 against Vijaykanth before the Saligramam Police station.
In his petition he urged the High court to direct inspector
of Saligramam police station to register an FIR on his complaint and investigate the same.
