MTS rolls out 9.8 mbps data card in Tamil Nadu

Chennaites can now browse the Internet at a data speed of 9.8 mbps with the launch of MTS India’s next generation Mblaze Ultra dongle.

This would be the first time in India a telecom operator is offering speed upto 9.8 mbps.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Chief Operating Officer of Tamil nadu circle – MTS India Suresh S Kumar said that MTS, also known as Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL), is planning to be one of the leading players in the data segment by offering such speed.

“We are also trying to launch a series of products including smartphones and tablets soon,” said Kumar.

Interestingly, besides the dongle, MTS has also launched Mblaze Wifi Dongle with the same speed of 9.8 mbps that can be accessed by a minimum of five people. It is priced at Rs 2,222.

“The dongle is priced at Rs 1.299  with free 10 GB free introductory offer besides 5GB youtube access for 30 days,” Kumar said.

He said that MTS is one of the top four players in data cards. He said that there are nine commercial operators in India in this segment making it one of the most competitive in the world.

He said the reason being only 10 per cent of people in India use Internet and telecom providers are eying the other 90 per cent segment. He said with the speed of 9.8 mbps, Tamil Nadu can experience downloading speed 66 times faster that what they have been experiencing now.

Talking about the smartphones to be launched in the 3G plus network, he said that it will be priced in the range of rs 7,000 to Rs 10,00. On the Tablets, he said the cost is still being worked out but the tablets of 3G plus network will be rolled out soon,’ he added.

He said affordability would be the major focus of MTS. Last quarter MTS had a growth of 30 per cent, Kumar said. Currently, MTS has 10 million overall subscribers across the nation and has a customer base of 1.18 million when it comes to data.
