Chennai:
Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on Saturday urged the
Petroleum Ministry to review the rise in the price of non-subsidised cooking
gas (LPG), which customers buy after consuming their quota of subsidised
cylinders.
Addressing a press conference after inaugurating the
medical camp for non-port employees in the Chennai Port, the minister said the
price rise of unsubsidized gas cylinder, which has been raised by more than Rs 220,
should be reviewed as it would put a huge burden on the common man.
He also said that the Petroleum ministry should review
the cap of nine cylinders on a domestic consumer. Vasan said that it should be
made to 12.
The minister said that he would be taking up the issue
with Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural gas.
On the Congress forging an alliance in the state, he said
the party would align with only those parties that is ready to acknowledge the
Congress leadership in UPA III. He said a victorious alliance will be forged at
a right time.
Earlier, he inaugurated the health camp for non-port
employees. He said this is the first time in history of Chennai port such a
health camp is being undertaken to cater to 5,000 non-port workers who lack
access and means to state-of-the-art health services. He said that other ports
would emulate the move under the corporate social responsibility to cater to
the non port workers.
The camp is organized with the association of Agarwal Eye
Hospital for eye check up and Abbot and Wockhardt for blood pressure and diabetic
screening.
