Two workers die after being trapped in Indian Navy's decommissioned submarine Vagli



Chennai:
Two workers died and another rescued by divers when they got trapped in a decommissioned submarine Vagli docked at the Chennai Port on Monday evening.
Mishra told Express that the three, employees of a private conservancy contractor, had gone into the decommissioned submarine for maintenance work.
In a bid to rescue them, Indian Navy, CISF, and divers from Nirikshan, a private firm and port fire service were pressed into service, Mishra said.

Only one was rescued while two others were brought out dead from the inner chamber of INS Vagli.

INS Vagli is the oldest operational submarine of the Indian Navy, that was decommissioned at Visakhapatnam on December 2010. The submarine was to be transferred to the 30 acres of land abutting the beach near the UNESCO declared World Heritage site, “Shore Temple” soon.
