Outer harbor project in Tuticorin to be executed in four phases

The Outer Harbour Project at V O Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin would be executed in four different phases at an estimated cost of Rs 23,432 crore featuring 17 berths.
This was announced by Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan after releasing the Detailed Project Report for Outer Harbour in Tuticorin, a Shipping Ministry release said.
The total capacity addition would by 328 million tonnes. The draught in front of the berths would be 16 metres. Initially, V O C Port has planned to take up development of Outer Harbour at an estimate cost of Rs 11, 635 Crore under phase one of the project. These include constructing five berths – two for coal and three for containers with capacity addition of 97.5 MTPA.
The minister also commissioned Dakshin Bharat Gateway Container Terminal at the cost of Rs 312.23 Crore, the release added.
