Lieutenant General VK Pillai, relinquished the command of
Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Kerala Area (ATNK&K Area) on Friday.
The General Officer was commissioned into 2 Rajput Regiment
on May 12, 1974 and is retiring from the Indian Army after 39 years and eight
months of dedicated and distinguished service to the nation. As the General
Officer Commanding of the largest Area of the Army spanning the four Southern
States of the country, the General Officer has made substantial impact in areas
contributing to the welfare of lakhs of service personnel, veterans and their
families.
The improvement in Ex-servicemen Contributory Health
Scheme (ECHS) was one of his key result areas, which under his vision and
guidance, has expanded to every nook and corner of the Southern States, thereby
benefitting those veterans and families who sacrificed their best days in the
service of our nation.
His contribution to infrastructure development, improving
the quality of education facilities including sports and the quality of life
had tremendous effects in the lives of every soldier and their families in his
area of jurisdiction.
