Chennai:
Families of 94 students, who were burnt alive during Kumbakonam school
fire tragedy in July 2004, are yet to get compensation from the
government, a decade after the incident.
Despite the High Court on October 19, 2012, appointing one man
commission headed by former high court judge P Shanmugham for
determining the compensation payable to families of deceased as well
as injured students, the government has yet to act upon it, a contempt
petition filed by K Inbaraj, who lost his two sons in the fire
accident stated.
The contempt petition has been filed against chief secretary and
school education secretary in the Madras high court before the bench
comprising Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice M Sathyanarayanan.
The judges adjourned the hearing and posted it after two days.
