After a 22 year battle, a legal heir of a deceased Tamil Nadu
Electricity Board (TNEB) employee got reprieve with the Madras high
court directing the Board to provide compassionate appointment to him
within 12 weeks.
Justice D Hariparanthaman after hearing a petition by R Sankar quashed
the orders of the TNEB, rejecting his representations for
compassionate appointment.
While working as wireman, petitioner’s father died on October 28,
1992, leaving behind his wife, his mother and four children including
the petitioner. At the time of death of his father, the petitioner was
aged 14 years. After the death of his father, the mother of the
petitioner made an application to settle the terminal benefits and
also to provide compassionate appointment to the petitioner
