Tamil Nadu government is planning to rehabilitate all families along the banks of Adyar to slum tenements at Okkium Thoraipakkam and Perumbakkam before February 25 this year, according to sources.
Sources told Express that a meeting was convened by chief secretary recently who has sought the need to formulate a plan of action to complete the entire eviction and resettlement of slum families.

It is learnt that Public Works Department .has been to told to demolish the encroachments and fence the site besides personally safeguarding the evicted sites.
“PWD along with surveyor of Chennai collectorate has been asked to demarcate the river boundary and fence it immediately,” said the sources.
Meanwhile, the state government will allot tenements to only those whose name figure in the biometric list prepared by state government after conducting a survey on encroachment along the water bodies.
Those who don’t figure in the biometric list may be considered if they have residential proof, said sources.
However, those families whose names are not in biometric list neither are they in possession of residential proof, would be evicted and accommodated in temporary shelters run by Chennai Corporation.
