Flood-hit MSME’s yet to get promised relief

After suffering nearly Rs 5,000 crore loss due to the floods, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries has alleged that it has been neglected by the Union government by not providing any relief to the flood hit micro small enterprises (MSEs).

Addressing a press conference, C Muthusami, president of TANSTIA, said that the state government initiated and organised State Level Bankers Committee immediately for the flood hit industries on December 14 and December 18, 2015 and certain decisions were taken in the meeting which was agreed both by the associations and bankers in the presence of Reserve bank of India and additional chief secretary of MSME department.

“But till date no tangible help has been given by the bankers to the flood-hit entreprenuers,” said Muthusami.

Demanding waiver of excise duty as well as service tax for one year, Muthusami said that government should instruct all insurance companies to settle the claim without any delay.

He also demanded exemption of import duty for spares on machinery components including electronics besides not to invoke Sarfesi Act on MSME units which are affected by floods. 

To a query on what course of action would TANSTIA take if the relief is not provided by Centra and state, he said a committee would discuss and take future course of action. 

He also urged the state to provide additional subsidy for the affected units which are buying new machineries as upfront and also increase the maximum limit to Rs one crore without any turnover increase condition.

He also said that all MSE units affected by rain and floods should be given financial grants as in the case of Thane cyclone.
