Chennai:
Chennai Airport has banned the entry of visitors to its domestic and international terminals till March 12.
The clamp on entry of visitors was imposed by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, said Airport Authority of India sources.
To a query on whether is this is due to terror alert following intelligence inputs that terrorists had entered Gujarat from Pakistan to carry out attacks on Maha Shivratri, the official said they are just following the instructions from BCAS.
However, police sources confirmed that Chennai airport is under terror alert after intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based terrorists sneaked into the country.
Meanwhile, the National Security Guards carried out mock drill at VIP Lounge on Monday night. The drill carried out by the NSG resulted in part of false ceiling falling down.
Airport officials said that it is a routine drill and passenger movements were not obstructed.
