Chennai:
Chennaites can look forward to travelling from Chennai Airport
to Little Mount and Koyambedu by June this year as Chennai Metro Rail on Tuesday
conducted inspection trial run between Alandur and Airport station.
The inspection, which was conducted using self-propelled
overhead maintenance vehicle, would pave the way for conducting trial using the
Metro train within a month.
The opening of stretch between Little Mount to Airport would
be beneficial for students and staff of Anna University who can avoid traffic
during the rush hour. Besides the metro stretch would also be beneficial for
air passengers who want to reach the airport on time.
The inspection consisted of checking of track and schedule
of dimension. Currently, electrical traction works are in progress.
Interestingly, there is also good news from the underground
stretch. A top Chennai Metro Rail official told Express that the trial using
the metro train is likely to be conducted by the end of this month.
“We will be conducting it phase-wise. In the first phase
we will conduct it till Shenoy Nagar. The underground stretch till Egmore is
likely to be opened by the end of this year,” said the official.
