Shops downed shutters and the entire city roads wore a desolate look just hours before the announcement of death of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
The city experienced tense moments once as TV channels claimed that the Chief Minister passed away even before there was official communication. Shops downed shutters and everything came to a standstill.
“There is no milk available,” said Valli, a housewife in Virugambakam. Even in Egmore and other places, milk is not available.
An Aavin spokesman said that it was due to panic buying by consumers. “In the morning, there was less supply of 20,000 litres due to availability of vehicles. However, it was sorted out and we supplied additional load in the evening. Our milk parlour in Virugambakkam is supplying milk,” said Aavin spokesman.
He said Aavin will continue to supply milk to its consumers on Tuesday also.
Similarly, rail passengers had struggle to find food as all shops were closed and people were seen trying to figure out which shops are opened.
Similarly, there has been huge crowd in petrol bunks as people started to fill the petrol bunk.
In Koyambedu market, trade was totally hit. Koyambedu Vegetable Wholesale Merchants Association President S Chandran said that there was only 25 per cent business across the vegetable and wholesale market. “Traders from outside did not come as many vegetables were sold at half-price,” said Chandran.
