Chennai:
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would soon be launching a milk testing kit produced by Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) in Mysuru to detect Melamine and other contaminants in milk, said DFRL director Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma.
Sharma said that the technology for the milk testing kit has been transferred to Maharastra based private company Pearl Corporation.
Melamine when mixed with watered down milk makes the milk's protein level appear higher. Scientists say its consumption could result in kidney damage or even renal failure.
Sharma said the technology was developed so that Indian armed personnel don’t get contaminated milk which could affect their health.
