Chennai:
Cyclone Nada failed to trigger adequate rains to boost the levels of reservoirs supplying water to Chennai as water managers hope for more rains.
As per norms, the state should recieve 2TMC feet of Krishna water from Andhra Pradesh.
Cyclone Nada failed to
Although the dwindling reserves of water was arrested as another 400 cusecs of water flowed in, but water managers say it is not adequate and pin their hopes on more rainfall this week.
Currently, the four reservoirs --- Poondi, Cholavaram, Red Hills and Chembarambakkam have only 829 million cubic feet of water.
The only hope is Krishna water which is flowing into Poondi reservoir after Andhra Pradesh opened the shutters of Kandaleru reservoir. Water Resources Department say that the state is getting only 420 cusecs of water of the total 1,700 cusecs released from Kandaleru through the 152-km- long Kandaleru-Poondi canal. Most of them is being used by Andhra farmers for their crops and other purposes.
Cholavaram and Red Hills reservoirs received highest rainfall of 57mm.
