Nuclear scientist of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre’s (BARC) Technical Coordination Wing, J Daniel Chelappa, who facilitated setting up of 11 Nisargruna Biomethanation Plants in Tamilnadu for scientifically managing the Municipal Biodegradable Solid Wastes for achieving a clean, healthy & benign environment has been honoured with Public Relations Society of India's “National Award for the Best Communications Campaign for the Year 2016” at its 38th National Conference In Kolkata.
Nisargruna coverts biodegrable solid wastes in to energy and organic natural manure. He has taken up with the Southern State Governments for establishing BARC’s innovative cost-effective sewage dry sludge hygienisation Plants and also as part of Cooum River Restoration Mission.
Chellappa played a key role in sensitizing the multifaceted applications of radiation and radioisotopes for the welfare of the mankind, among various cross-sections of the society. He has also developed novel scientific methodologies and innovative strategies in reaching-out a broad spectrum of stakeholders with facts and figures to establish national facilities of global significance like Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, besides waste-to-energy ‘Nisargruna’ Plants and broad basing superior Trombay Crop Varieties among farmers.
