Former Chennai Corporation commissioner belittles Chennai floods

Chennai:
When Rome burned, Nero fiddled and this could be literally true when one goes by the account of Union Chemicals secretary Surjit Kumar Chaudhary while recounting his days as Chennai Corporation Commissioner.
The secretary while belittling the inundation which Chennaites are battling as well as the efforts put by Chennai Corporation, said that during his tenure as Chennai Corporation, he would be directing the officials from Taj Coromandal gymnasium.
“I will have all my team out on the road to make it look like everyone is working hard to clear the inundation. Then I will go to a gymnasium in Taj Coromandal and from there give them the instruction,” the Tamil Nadu cadre officer who is on Central government deputation said.
“Usually, it takes only two days for the water to recede and everything is back to normal without doing anything,” the former Chennai Corporation Commissioner told the gathering which consisted of national and international delegates.
Interestingly, the official also made a disclosure during the address that he lacked any knowledge about chemistry. “I detested this subject and used to fail in Chemistry and now I am the secretary of Chemicals and petrochemicals department. My son used to say you failed in this subject and now you are made secretary of this department. I don’t know what will happen to the department,” said the Union secretary as delegates broke into laughter.
