Coastal areas of TN to get rainfall

After rain deficit of around 30 per cent in Tamil Nadu last year, there is some good news for the state on New Year as the coastal areas of the state is likely to experience rains in the next 24 hours.
Officials of Regional Meteorology department in Chennai feel that trough of low pressure in South East Bay of Bengal has become low pressure as such rains are expected in coastal areas, including Chennai.
He said the rains may be expected in the next 24 hours and the coastal areas of Southern Tamil Nadu is expected to get more rains than Chennai, which is also likely to experience rains.
The cool weather and overcast condition in the city on Wednesday is due to the trough formation. Interestingly, several areas of the city received small amount of rainfall.
The rain also hit the Chennai Open Tennis match between Stanislas Wawrinka and Benjamin Becker a couple of times as tennis fans had to run for cover during the match.
The weather officials said that the rains would bring to an end the misty condition being experienced by the city. Interestingly, the monsoon forecast has not been withdrawn by the regional meteorology centre.
